Family Car Rental in Georgia: What Matters

Family car rental in Georgia comes down to three things: a child seat, a second driver for long days, and a car chosen by luggage rather than by seats. At DRACARS the child seat is included in the price, and a second driver is free.

The child seat

A child seat is included in the price, so there is no daily charge to add to the total. Say in your request that you need one, rather than asking at the handover.

At the handover, check that the seat is fastened firmly and adjust the straps before you pull away, not at the first stop. The back seat is the right place for it, whatever the length of the drive. On long drives, a small pillow and a blanket make it easier for a child to sleep in the seat.

A second driver for long days

Mountain roads are slow and demanding, and swapping drivers every couple of hours keeps both of you fresh. A second driver is free if they meet the same requirements: at least 21 years old with a year of driving experience.

The only documents needed are a passport and the original driving licence; a licence from any country is accepted. Add the second driver to the request, not on the day. On a long day, switch before anyone gets tired, not after.

Choosing the car for family car rental in Georgia

Count the luggage first and the passengers second. Two adults and two children fit in a standard sedan, but a week of family bags plus a pushchair fills a sedan boot quickly.

If the route includes the mountains, a higher car is the easier choice; you will find them in the SUV section. Premium models and low sedans are not allowed on mountain roads. The insurance never covers tyres or the underbody, so their repair is paid by the renter, and a slow pace on rough stretches is the best protection.

Planning driving days around children

Nothing in Georgia looks far on the map, but a mountain road takes longer than the distance suggests. Plan one long drive every two days rather than every day, and start early while everyone is still fresh.

Break long drives into short pieces with a stop every hour or so: a waterfall, a viewpoint, a village bakery. For children who get car sick, a seat in the middle of the back row, looking ahead, with the window slightly open, helps on bends. Keep water, snacks and a spare set of clothes within reach rather than in the boot.

Short trips that work with children

  • Batumi Botanical Garden — paths above the sea, shade and room to run.
  • Prometheus Cave near Kutaisi — a walking route through lit halls, cool even on the hottest day.
  • Borjomi Central Park — mineral springs, a cable car and playgrounds.
  • Mtskheta near Tbilisi — the old capital with Jvari monastery on the hill above, small enough to walk around with children.
  • Kobuleti — calmer, wide beaches north of Batumi, good for an evening swim.

Each of these works as a half-day, with lunch and a rest before the drive back. If a small child still naps during the day, set off in the morning and be back in time for the nap.

What to put in your request

  • A child seat — say that you need one.
  • The second driver — name and driving experience.
  • Your route — the city, the coast or the mountains.
  • Luggage — including a pushchair or a travel cot.
  • Where the car should meet you — the airport or your hotel.

Requests are confirmed within 15–20 minutes between 9:00 and midnight, on WhatsApp or Telegram. Requests are not confirmed at night, so for an early-morning handover send yours the day before.

In short

Send your request with your route, the second driver and a note that you need a child seat.
