Why a daily rate is not a total

From 3 days on, multiplying the one-day rate by the number of days therefore gives more than you will actually pay.

The minimum rental is one day, enough for a single trip into the mountains. Ask for the total for your exact dates: a day more or less can move the rental into a different discount. If your dates are not final yet, ask for two totals, for the shorter and the longer option.

What the price already includes

Four things belong in the price rather than on a separate line: insurance, a child seat if you need one, winter tyres in season and unlimited mileage. Fixed-price car rental in Georgia: the extras that are normal

Some charges are reasonable and simply have to be visible in advance. The main one is delivery, and its price depends on the city and on whether you want the airport or a hotel:

• Batumi — delivery in Batumi to a hotel or to the airport is free.
• Tbilisi — delivery to the airport or to a hotel in the city costs ₾50.
• Kutaisi — delivery to the airport costs ₾50, to a hotel in the city ₾30.

The other is a one-way rental. The car can be taken in one large city and returned in another; Tbilisi → Batumi is usually free, while Batumi → Tbilisi sometimes carries a fee because cars run short in Batumi, and that fee is named when you book. Put the return city in your request, so the fee, if any, is part of the total from the start.

What can still be added, and when you learn about it

A fixed price covers the rental itself: the car, the insurance and everything listed above. A few conditions can still change what you pay, and each of them is known before you book:

• Driving experience under 2 years — there is an excess; it depends on the car and is named when you book.
• Tyres and the underbody — not covered by the insurance on any road; if they are damaged, the renter pays for the repair, so drive slowly on gravel.
• Cancellation — free up to 24 hours before the handover; later, 10% of the booking value.
• The premium class — a $100 deposit, returned when you bring the car back.

The extras that should raise questions

Three charges turn a cheap booking into an average one: a mandatory insurance upgrade at the counter, a mileage charge nobody mentioned and an airport surcharge that appears on arrival. If one of them shows up only at the handover, the original quote was an advertisement, not a price. Ask about each of them by name before you pay, and get the answer in writing.
